Several armed men mingled with ATM customers to rob the branch of a new generation bank along Unity Road,Ilorin, Friday morning. The robbers gain access into the banking hall through the roof.
Vanguard reports that at about 10.30am mixed with the ATM customers and climbed to the roof of the bank, seeing that it was difficult to gain entrance through the doors.
The robbers ordered bank officials at a gunpoint for keys to the vault and started to gather money from the customers. However, the ATM customers, located at the entrance into the main hall, raised the alarm and the robbers fled.
They stormed the main road shooting into the air to scare people away and quickly get away with their loot.
The officers of special anti-robbery squad at A division police station raced to the bank to repel the armed robbers.
Three of the robbers reportedly escaped while the fourth, trapped inside the banking hall, was caught by the officers of SARS.
The suspect was said to be helping the police to track his other gang members who escaped.
