Nigeria’s former military President 'Babangida' Reacts To Owning Social Media Account


General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has reacted to owning a twitter or any other social media account.

Babangida, who is Nigeria’s former military President on Friday in a press release signed by one of his aides who is a publisher of an online magazine, Alhaji Iliyasu Dhacko, Ajiya Minna and made available to Leadership, denied having a social media account through which anybody could relate with him.

He said he was displeased by the disclosure recently of spurious use of his name by some dubious elements on a social media account.

The retired general, however, cleared the air that he was not against the usage of his pictures in the media, but advised the users to be cautious and ensure the judicious use of such photographs.

The former head of state expressed disappointment and said it was unfortunate that Nigerian youths that people should look up to as leaders of tomorrow are degenerating into social miscreants by creating disaffection with the social media platform.

Babangida went ahead to advised media practitioners, saying media should always be used to promote unity, especially now that the country is at a trying period.

The general, who insisted that the country needs positive contributions of all Nigerians to get things right, also advised politicians to shun any act of violence and stop engaging the youth in political thuggery.

Babangida urged politicians to engage the youths in more constructive works that would be beneficial to all, and warned that that any further use of social media account in his name would be treated as fraud with the originator handed to the appropriate authority to be prosecuted.

Recall that few weeks ago, the former military president Gen Babangida publicly denied having or using any twitter handles for posting political suggestions or views.
